Endodontics, also known as root canal treatment, is the branch of dentistry that removes inflamed or dead dental nerves together with their blood supply from the tooth. The root canal is cleaned, disinfected and then sealed. Our aim is to save your own tooth and preserve it for you.

When root canal treatment is necessary
If deep caries reaches the nerve, or the nerve is damaged by an accident, a large filling or inflammation, this often leads to severe pain, sensitivity to heat and cold or swelling. Without treatment the inflammation can spread to the jawbone. Root canal treatment removes the cause and preserves the tooth.
Procedure
- Local anaesthetic, which makes the treatment usually painless
- Opening the tooth and removing the inflamed tissue
- Shaping, cleaning and disinfecting the root canals
- Tight filling of the canals with a biocompatible material
- Sealing the tooth; depending on the loss of substance, subsequent build-up with a filling or crown
