Nitrous oxide: relaxed at the dentist
Fear of the dentist is widespread. With nitrous oxide sedation we offer you a gentle method, proven for decades, to experience treatment relaxed and without fear. You remain responsive at all times, and the effect wears off a few minutes after the end of treatment.
- Effect
- after 3–5 minutes, precisely controllable
- Afterwards
- clear again after approx. 5 minutes of oxygen, usually fit to drive
- Suitable for
- anxious patients, children from preschool age, gag reflex, longer treatments
- Cost
- private service, approx. €50–150 per session
- Not suitable
- in pregnancy, with a blocked nose, certain lung conditions
All prices are non-binding guide values (German dental fee schedule GOZ, as of 2026) and depend on your individual findings. Your personal treatment and cost plan, which you receive before any major treatment, is binding.
How nitrous oxide works
Through a small nasal mask you breathe a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. Within a few minutes a feeling of calm sets in, fear and tension subside, and pain perception decreases. You are awake, hear us and can talk to us. The concentration is adjusted individually during treatment.
Who nitrous oxide is suitable for
- Anxious patients
- Children who cannot yet cooperate calmly
- People with a strong gag reflex
- Longer or more extensive treatments, for example in implantology or periodontology
We clarify in a preliminary talk whether nitrous oxide is suitable for you. With certain conditions or during pregnancy it is not used.
Safety
Nitrous oxide has been used in dentistry for a long time and is considered very safe when applied professionally. The effect is easy to control and has worn off completely after a few minutes of breathing oxygen. After a short recovery period you can usually leave the practice on your own; we discuss this with you beforehand.
