X-ray
Many findings cannot be seen with the naked eye: caries between the teeth, inflammation at the root tip, the condition of the jawbone or the position of wisdom teeth. All X-rays taken in our practice are limited to the maximum safe radiation dose.
In briefDigital X-rays show caries between the teeth, inflammation at root tips and the condition of the jawbone, which cannot be seen with the naked eye. Our digital equipment needs far less radiation than earlier film images; a panoramic image corresponds to roughly a few days of natural background radiation.

Our X-ray equipment
The practice has a Sirona panoramic X-ray unit for images of the entire jaw and a Villa intraoral unit for detailed images of individual teeth. The digital images are available immediately and can be discussed with you on screen.
When we take X-rays
- To diagnose caries between the teeth
- If inflammation at the root tip is suspected or before root canal treatment
- To assess the jawbone in periodontitis
- To plan implants and prosthetics
- To check wisdom teeth and jaw development
Radiation protection
We only take X-rays when necessary for diagnosis or treatment and keep the dose as low as possible. Digital systems need far less radiation than earlier film images. Please tell us if you are pregnant, and bring your X-ray record card if you have one.
Frequently asked questions
How high is the radiation exposure?
Very low. A digital intraoral X-ray corresponds to only a fraction of the natural radiation we are all exposed to every day.
How often are X-rays needed?
That depends on your individual risk. With healthy teeth, check-up images at longer intervals are sufficient.
Can I bring images from another practice?
Gladly. Recent images may save you a new exposure.
